On February 6, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the delegation led by the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Dominique de Buman, comprised of the Vice Presidents of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation and the representatives of different parties, who visited our country on an official visit.

Welcoming the guests in the parliament, the President of the RA National Assembly touched upon the dynamic development of the Armenian-Swiss relations during recent years and the effective activities of the parliamentary friendship groups. Ara Babloyan highlighted the signing of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement in the previous year, considering it one more important step to Europe.

The RA NA President noted: In terms of democracy Switzerland is an exemplary country, and the wide field of cooperation gives an opportunity to get maximum result in the spheres of economy, culture, politics and other spheres.

With regards to the Armenian-Swiss trade-economic relations, Ara Babloyan noted that they were considerably enlivened, and in that context emphasized the creation of Armenia-Switzerland Chamber of Commerce and its activities.

The RA NA President thanked the Swiss parliamentarians for the cooperation on the international platforms and approaches in favour of Armenia.

Thanking the RA NA President for the warm reception, the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Dominique de Buman referred to the upward development of Switzerland-Armenia relations. Dominique de Buman noted that in the previous year the delegation took part in Armenia-Switzerland Business Meeting, when issues and programmes of bilateral importance were discussed. In Mr Buman’s word, Switzerland and Armenia have many commonalities, and we can build the cooperation based on those very commonalities.

The President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation has stated that Switzerland, not being an EU member country, has treaties with almost all countries of Europe. According to Dominique de Buman, the Armenians and the Swiss are not like any other nation, and they can make use of that opportunity.

Dominique de Buman invited the delegation of the RA National Assembly led by Ara Babloyan to Switzerland.

The invitation was gladly accepted.

The President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation left a note in the Book of Memorable Guests of the RA National Assembly.

At the end of the meeting the heads of the parliaments of Armenia and Switzerland planted a fir tree as a token of two peoples’ long lasting friendship, and they together took a tour in the RA National Assembly Park, observing the trees planted by different delegations through many years.
